Storyline.

Kim Ki-Taek used to work as a driver, but lost his job a long time ago. He lives with his wife, Chun Suk and two senior-age children in a basement apartment.
One day, Ki Taek's son Ki Woo is visited by his friend Min Hyuk, who works as an English tutor for a girl from a rich family. Min Hyuk goes to study abroad and offers Ki-Woo to take his place and gives Ki-Woo the scholar's stone, which is supposed to bring the family wealth.
Ki-Woo is interviewed at the Park family's luxury mansion. He makes a good impression on Mrs. Park and gets a job. An unusual plan occurs to him.

Ki-Jon (Park So-dam) fakes his brother's documents from Yonsei University, one of the three most prestigious universities in South Korea. The film Director Pon Joon-Ho graduated from this University.
The stone that Min-Hyuk brings and gives to the Family is called susok. In Korea, there is a long tradition of collecting stones of interesting shapes. Usually this hobby is carried away by rich people.
The first South Korean film to win the highest award at the Cannes film festival. This happened in the year of the 100th anniversary of Korean cinema.
The coffee table, under which the characters were hiding, was designed specifically for the film. It was designed so that four adults could fit under it.
